TMT Athlete since 2013
I’m back with TMT for my 4th year as I enter a new age group, and I am proud to have been selected as an ambassador for Transition Myself Training for the 2016 season!! I began racing about 5 years ago, and became hooked immediately. Since then I have worked to improve my performance each season, and along with Coach Pickering, have worked to achieve this goal. I trained smart and remained healthy last year, successfully setting a new 10 km PR, having multiple age group podium finishes and competing at the ITU Age Group World Championships in Chicago. My goals for 2016 include some longer distance racing with Multisport Canada, finishing off with The Niagara Falls Barrelman in September. I am looking forward to building off last year, and to meeting some fellow TMT athletes during training and racing!

The most I ever ran before my ACL surgery in 2013 was 13k and that was by mistake. I was running the Terry Fox run and had trained for a 10k but took a wrong turn. Why did those extra 3k feel like so much more? Running and biking was a big part of my rehab for the ACL and I started doing longer and longer distances (putting my 13k distance behind me). Soon, I was doing half marathons and the 30k Around The Bay. A buddy of mine joined me and we started attending (not really competing) Duathlon races in 2014. As people twice my age kept passing me though I remember being very impressed by them but wondered what I was missing. I thought a coach might help and I reached out to Chris through doing a bit of research online. I had absolutely no clue as to whether or not a coach would take on a beginner who was posting times like he was crawling with a 50 lb. bag of sand on his back! I met with Chris and he agreed to help me. It was the best decision I ever made. In under 6 months Chris took a brand new duathlete who was performing terribly and helped me reach the Duathlon & triathlon podiums twice in (what I will call) my first season of really competing. It was mind boggling to me how much I didn’t know, how much Chris taught me in such a short amount of time, and what a difference it made!
I am eagerly anticipating the 2016 season and continuing to work with Chris. He understands the pressures that people with families and work challenges are under and is incredibly patient with the challenges this presents for training. Chris is quite simply someone who inspires and helps you achieve dreams. I could not have done it without him and I am so grateful for his help. If you are thinking of hiring a coach, reach out to me if you are considering Chris. I’d be happy to tell you the story of Chris and I working together – it has been one of the best decisions of my life.
